Fighting cravings with filling foods
Are you always hungry? If so, you may end up eating more than is required, resulting in weight gain. Besides, now that the government has issued a stay at home order, you may be tempted to eat when bored or sad for comfort.
Although resisting the urge to snack can be challenging, there are some foods you can eat to curb your appetite and suppress your hunger. Here are some filling foods to include in your diet:
Popcorn is a whole grain, rich in fiber, making it a healthy snack to have while at home. Additionally, it’s an airy snack that fills you up, providing you with sensory satisfaction as opposed to other snacks such as crisps. However, when making your popcorn, don’t add fat to it since too much fat makes it unhealthy. Instead, season it with salt, cinnamon, cayenne pepper and any other seasonings of your choice.
Eggs are the perfect filling foods to start of your day as they contain all 9 amino acids. These acids trigger hormones in your gut that suppress your appetite, achieving a satisfying feeling. For instance, eating two boiled eggs for breakfast can fill you up until lunch without having to snack in between.
But, don’t go overboard with your eggs, as they are high in protein and calories.
3. High-water fruits and vegetables
Fruits and vegetables high in water and fiber are known as high-volume foods because they add bulk to your meals and help fill you up. For instance, fruits like watermelons, oranges, apples, and pears are more satiating than bananas.
Similarly, vegetables such as spinach, kale, broccoli, and peas are satiating because they’re high in fiber. So, eat fruits before your main meal to reduce the amount of food you’ll eat, or eat a salad for lunch to fill you up.
Soup is the easiest way to fill up your stomach with fluids and vegetables, reducing your urge to snack. It’s not only wise to eat a bowl of soup as a starter but also take it as a snack when you have sugar cravings.
